Iowa Wine Growers Association Recognizes National Apprenticeship Week

November 11, 2019 - The Iowa Wine Growers Association (IWGA) is celebrating the fifth annual National Apprenticeship Week throughout November 11 - 17, 2019. IWGA has had a registered apprenticeship program since 2016. Their program includes the positions of Cellar Worker and Wine Maker, tailored to support employment opportunities at wineries within and outside the state of Iowa. To date, the IWGA program has nine enrolled cellar worker apprentices and two wine maker apprentices at wineries across three states - Iowa, Nebraska and Wisconsin.

“We are proud of our enrolled apprentices and the wineries employing them. These wineries and apprentices are leaders in the industry, making strides toward helping supply current and future generations with skilled workers in our trade,” said Nicole Eilers, IWGA Marketing Director.

Wineries within the program who are employing an apprentice include Fireside Winery (Marengo, IA), Wooden Wheel Vineyards (Keota, IA), Prairie Crossing Winery (Treynor, IA), Wide River Winery (Clinton, Le Claire and Davenport, IA), Glyn Mawr Winery (Mt. Vernon, IA), Madison County Winery (St. Charles, IA), Soldier Creek Winery (Ft. Dodge, IA) The Cellar Winery at White Oak (Cambridge, IA), Summerset Winery (Indianola, IA), James Arthur Vineyards (Raymond, NE) and Villa Bellezza Winery (Pepin, WI).

The benefits of apprenticeship are substantial for both job seekers and job creators. These “earn and learn” models enable employers to fill open jobs, improve productivity and profitability, and reduce turnover while providing the American workforce with pathways to start new careers and acquire the skills needed for good jobs.
